Reasons to be Happy: February 24 2009

I know that I said I would have a post on Sunday, but once again life got away from me. And here we are on Tuesday, and I haven't posted. I do however have a reason to be happy. Several, actually.

1. The guy who was my friend, then my boyfriend and now my ex, and I had a comfortable conversation today. So yay for trying to be friends again!!

2. A friend is turning seventeen so PARTY!! Not a "lets get completely drunk, then take a whole bunch of stupid pictures party" but a fun party with all of her friends, so most of mine, music, and all the other fun things that come with parties.

3. Three more school days until March break!!  Then nine blissful days of vacation.

4. I might be going into a somewhat big city to visit my aunt, and more importantly: SHOP!!

5. My english teacher, who's mother died, took some time off, but she is back now. I really like my english teacher, and the substitutes could barely speak english, let alone teach us so, happy.

Guilt trip

I am so sorry, if anybody is still checking this blog at all, I do have a somewhat legit reason for my absence. First I started dating this guy, who was one of my good friends, then I broke up with him a week later because I realized that I didn't like him in that way. Sadly, he really did like me in that way, so he's all sad, and I feel really badly. Last night I went to a friends birthday party, and met her boyfriend, who is totally hot, really sweet, and obviously completely off limits.  So trying to work that out. Secondly, I haven't really had much to write about. I've worn some neat outfits, but haven't gotten pictures of them.

I am going to try and get you an actual post tomorrow, so be ready.

(I really like to dress up.)

Reasons to be Happy: January 27 2009

I crashed this week, so I don't have to many reasons to be happy, and this might not be a very long post.

1. I have realized that stress keeps me from falling way deep into depression.

2. I had a mood crash, but it only lasted a few hours, and the last one lasted almost a week.

3. I had yummy waffles for dinner.

4. I saw Fame, the totally awesome musical twice.

5. My brothers converse, and my eyeshadow were in Fame the musical. (My eyeshadow as in it belongs to me, not I designed it or anything.)

Reasons to be Happy: Special Edition: ViviDot

I curse my lack of money! I just recently discovered an interesting shop, www.vividotonline.com/. I was checking up on a blog I follow, wishwishwish.net/

Carrie, of wishwishwish, recently ordered some items, and they have arrived. When I saw them, I knew I had to check out the rest.

These little dots add a splash of colour to the blandest of outfits. I haven't bought any, but as soon as I have more money, I think I will! They are too cool to explain, I went through the entire collection and picked out my favorites.

Inspiration

I happened to have  a few spare hours to day, so I sat down to reread harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.  Towards the end one quote really struck me.

It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.
-Dumbledore, p.245, Dobby's Reward, Chamber of Secrets

Even though I know that quote by heart, it was so reassuring to see it in print. It seemed so much truer. For a while know, I have been questioning if I would really be seen at all if I wasn't smarter than most people in my classes. I probably wouldn't be. But I have the choice to be intelligent. I may be naturally good at math, science, and most other school subjects, but I have also worked harder than most students, and I have fought harder. That is not to say that I work crazy hard all the time. But I do study hard, and put a full effort into my projects. Why? Because I could be a mid eighties to low nineties student.  However, I refuse to settle for anything less than what I can reasonably achieve.

So what I guess I m saying is that I feel that I have been reminded that I have a choice.

What I Wore: to a matinee of a musical

Guess what I did today? I went and say one of my best friends in Fame! And now I am here to tell you what I wore to this awesome show. The outfit isn't super flattering, as I realized when I saw the pictures I had my little brother take. (thanks Malcolm, even though I know that you don't read this!) This morning, I wanted to wear bright colours, but not look like a lost extra at the show which is set in the 80s, so I stuck to two. This is what i wore:

I am wearing a pink Old Navy cowl neck from a few seasons ago, a mid shin length green skirt that I, pulled up and worn as a strapless dress. The belt is a scarf that I got years ago. The skirt/dress is a very full skirt, which results in me looking a bit chunkier than usual, So this out fit was less of a success than I had hoped for. I wore the ensemble with black leather boots that came up past the bottom of my leggings.
Sorry about the crappy picture, open spaces are non existent in my house.

Reasons to be Happy: 21 January, 2009

Only a day late, which is very good since I only just finished my exams a few hours ago. The stress? Totally unneeded. Much with the reasons to be happy today, so on with the show.

1. Exams are over. For me anyway, most of my friend have an english exam tomorrow morning, then they have to stay at school for the rest of the day, because my school is in a different town, and there is a forty five minute drive, so parents not so much with the going to pick them up.

2. I can take grade ten IB english next term! (IB stands for international baccalaureate) This is happy happy because I won't have to be in a class with a bunch of francophones who are way behind me in english, seeing as I am anglophone. I have absolutely nothing against the French, Acadians, Québecois, or anyone else who is French, but I dislike easy classes.

3. I have spent hours catching up with a friend over the last few days, because he always finishes his exams at the same time as me, which was very early, so we spent hours walking around and and talking.

4. I have hope for the male race. My friend despite being a 14 year old guy, is very polite and always holds doors, ect. Go Brandon!

5. I found some awesome stuff around my house, posts on that soon.

O.W.L.s

Does my entire future rest on the results of my upcoming exams? Not exactly. It sure feels like I have my O.W.L.s, or even worse, my N.E.W.T.s, coming up. Due to some particularly nasty freezing rain, school was canceled today. Most people would that that is a good thing. Not when you are already too stressed, and have prepared more than most people do for University level exams. Why? This is the first time I have taken exams, and if I don't do well on them, my chances of getting into the International Baccalaureate  next year go down. This is a program which offers a harder and more fruitful diploma then the regular high school program. Offered all over the world, if you get a certain grade or higher, you can use it as University credits. You can google it for more information, but in short, it's a much harder program for students who are smart and want to learn.

The reason I am so desperate to get in is that I have been putting up with complete idiots in my classes for the last 9 and a half years. Everything is ridiculously easy, and I spend most of my time explaining things to people who don't get it and refuse to learn. The only thing that has gotten me through the last few years is looking forward to being in classes with people who want to be there.

I have such great sympathy for Hermione, I have no idea how she did it.

Cravings

Last weekend I had a peculiar desire to go shopping. Not normal shopping, but thrift store shopping. I repressed my longing, because exams were just over a week away, and I needed to study. The need is only growing, and my first exam is only 18 hours away, if the snow lets up. I don't have time to go searching through racks and racks of clothing, and spend the wonderful hours of joys exploring. To try and sate my hunger, I bought two new eyeshadows: lime green and purple. A very bad idea. Now I want to find new pieces to wear them with.

I must restrain: by Tuesday evening I will be done with the stupid exams, and free to go shopping. Perhaps I shall drag a couple friends along, on Thursday, after we go see a friend's show and have lunch. The university in the town where I live is putting on Fame, a musical set in the 1980s. A friend of mine is in it, not a major part but she is in it. So another friend and I, being very supportive of our friend and big fans of the 80s, are going to see it. I think that I might go all 80s look for the fun of it.

I really am not going anywhere with this, just trying to distract myself from the boredom of studying, and you can forget that I ever wrote this string of fairly unrelated sentences.

DIY: revamped t-shirt

What does a person do when school is canceled because it is too cold out? Study for upcoming exams? Of course not! What kind of person do you think I am? Exams don't start for three days! Instead, I pulled out an old t-shirt, and decided to try and spice it up. It should be know that while I am reasonably talented when it comes to creating new things, changing old things is definitely not a skill of mine. So, I set out on this adventure.

Materials: Scissors, if you sew, the little ones and the big ones. If you don't sew, nail scissors and kitchen scissors will do.
Old t-shirt you don't mind potential ruining. ( I recommend one that is form fitting but not skin tight.)
A very large safety pin ( mine is around 4 inches long and half an inch wide)

The shirt started off looking like this:

Step 1: Cut the sleeves off. I opened up a bit of the sleeve (pull the place where the two pieces meet, and take the small scissors and snip the threads that attach the two pieces), the used the big scissors to cut just inside the seam (on the body side).

It should look sort of like this:

Step 2: Decide whether the shirt looks good like this. I advise trying it on, because it looks very different on. Mine was too loose under the arm pit, so I decide to continue.

Step 3: This is where the safety pin comes in. Take the shirt off, and gather the material in the back between the arm holes together, secure with safety pin.

I think this picture will make more sense:

If you have questions, please ask in the comments, I will get back almost immediately.

Enjoy!

Dancing Queen

Have you ever had something happen that was really embarrassing? Today in geography, I had my first really experience in a while that was truly embarrassing. We had your last geography class today, so while we were preparing our cheat sheets for the exam, the teacher let us listen to our iPods. I put mine on shuffle and got to work. Part way through the class, when everyone was working quietly, Dancing Queen by ABBA comes on. If you haven't heard it, I suggest you go find it on YouTube immediately. I really like it, so I start kinda of dancing around in my seat and lip sinking. Thankfully I didn't start singing, because I really can't. After about a minute, I looked up and found everyone starring at. I am so lucky that the teacher was out of the room at the time!

Love at first Sight

I don't know about you guys, but I had never, ever flipped through the American Apparel website. That was until today, when in mindless boredom, I happened to be clicking through their socks and hosiery section. I was somewhat disappointed, and then I saw THEM. The two, possibly, most beautiful pair of tights I had ever seen. Until short minutes ago, I was not a tights person. I prefer pants, they are more suitable for the climate I live in. I may have to order these : store.americanapparel.ca/rsaphh.html, in every colour.

Then I saw these: store.americanapparel.ca/rsaphs.html. I would kill to have the royal blue/silver version!!

Ok, this site is addicting! Every time I decide to stop browsing and finish this post, I see something else that i absolutely adore!! So with this final piece: store.americanapparel.ca/suspender.html, I am going to actually post his.

(The reason I posted links instead of pictures is a) I couldn't figure out how to post pictures and b) I figured if you are trying to resist buying anything, it would help not to have to look at this stuff.)

Reasons to be Happy: 14 January, 2009

Right-o. So sorry I didn't post this last night, but I was busy finishing a project, because I was delusional and thought that I would be well enough to go to school today. Obviously, since it is 9:05, and my school day starts in nine minutes, and I am very much at home, I am not at school. Of all the times I could have fallen sick, it had to be the week before exams start.

1. I am home sick, but just sick enough to stay home and not sick enough to be completely bed ridden. This means a whole extra day to finish my project.

2. I have extra time to study! Yay!

3. I might have mentioned that I dropped my iPod, well, I should be getting my new one within a few days!!

4. I have time to catch up on all the podcasts that I haven't had time to listen to because I have been so busy with school. I listen to Pottercast and Harry Potter Prognostications, if you are into Harry Potter I highly recommend them.

5. I did laundry! This is happy because I usually do laundry every two weeks, but this time it has only been one week and now I have a ton of clean clothes.
